National Day of Prayer-Yom HaShoah Holocaust Remembrance Service

All Family Ed families are invited to join Shir Tikvah and the Troy Interfaith Group for the annual National Day of Prayer service, held this year at CST on May 1 at 7pm; the service lasts about an hour. Additionally, this year’s National Day of Prayer/Troy Interfaith Group service corresponds with Yom HaShoah: Holocaust Remembrance Day. The service will contain various readings relating to the Holocaust and national tragedies experiences by other ethnic and religious groups. The KidzKlez Klezmer band, which includes several CST teens, will play as will other musicians. No need to RSVP.

Family Ed Israel Birthday Celebration!

Children in the CST Family Ed program (Pre-K through 6th) will join religious schools from around Metro-Detroit in celebrating Israel’s birthday. On Sunday, May 4, we will meet at Shir Tikvah at 9:30 a.m., where a bus will take us to the JCC in West Bloomfield. The bus will bring us back to Shir Tikvah as well, where we’ll probably arrive around 12:15 p.m. Our youngest kids will laugh and sing with musician Rabbi Neal Katz and his band while our older kids will celebrate with accomplished musical artist Josh Nelson and his band. Israel is 60! We’re not. Let’s PARTY!!

Teacher Appreciation Shabbat

Please be sure to mark your calendar for Friday night, May 16. We’ll start with a special Shabbat dinner in honor of our teachers (6pm) then continue with a Music Shabbat service at 7:15 p.m. to say thank you for another incredible year of Family Ed. It would be great if we could have lots of parents and children come to say "thanks"!

End-of-the-Year Lag B’Omer Picnic!

Join your Family Ed friends on May 18 at 12 noon (rain or shine) for a picnic at Boulon Park. [There should be materials here from the Ed Council as to what to bring.] We look forward to seeing you there!

Even though it’s the summer, don’t forget to keep practicing your Hebrew! Ten minutes every couple days will make a big difference next year!

New Program for 2008-09: Torah Tuesdays for 4-8 year olds!

Leah Gawel, our phenomenal Pre-K teacher, has created a new opportunity on Tuesday afternoons for children ages 4-8. Torah Tuesdays, as the class will be called, is designed for the younger children of siblings already attending 3rd-6th grade though it is open to any child even if s/he does not have an older sibling. The class will begin at 4:30 p.m. with snack and structured play-time. Then Leah will guide the students in age-appropriate learning of the weekly Torah portion for one hour. The evening will conclude with more structured play-time, from 5:45-6:00 p.m. The cost for the program is $300. If you would like to sign your child up for Tikvah Tuesdays, please indicate so on your Family Ed registration form by writing "TT" next to the child’s grade.

B’shalom,
Rabbi Aaron
