Movie Night
Yentl, starring Barbra Streisand, Mandy Patinkin and Amy Irving will be shown on Movie Night, Saturday February 18th. Based on a story by Isaac Bashevis Singer, it takes place in an Ashkenazic shtetl in Poland. Yentl is the boyishly klutzy daughter and only child of long widowed Rebbe, who teaches her Talmud, even though women are not allowed to learn. When he dies, Yentl is alone in the world. She takes the momentous decision to leave the village and - disguised as a boy and calling herself by the name of her late brother, Anshel - seeks and gets admitted to a Yeshiva, to study the Torah and Talmud. She befriends Avigdor who is engaged to Haddas. And, of course, Barbra sings!
As always, Movie Night is a free event for adults. All we ask is that you bring a snack to share and help clean up after the movie. We will provide the soft drinks. Feel free to bring a friend. Movie Night starts at 7:00. Movie rolls at 7:30. See you at the movies!
Gardening Get-together - Feb 12, 2012
Attention all CST gardeners! Did you know that mid-February through early March is the best time to prune many of your trees and shrubs? Want to get your gardening tools like shears, pruners, shovels, loppers etc. ready for the upcoming gardening season? Join a group of Detroit Zoo gardeners, headed by metro-Detroit’s own gardening experts Janet Macunovich and Steve Nikila, as we use various techniques to sharpen our gardening tools and have a pot-luck dinner at Shir Tikvah on Sunday afternoon, February 12, 2012. Start time is 3 p.m. Please RSVP to Janet Schenk (or ask any questions you may have about the event) at jfgreenjeans@comcast.net and let her know, if you are staying for the potluck, what dish you would like to bring.

Diva Dinner - March 9
DAVEN BEFORE DINNER
The Dinner Committee is mixing it up a bit for March 9. There will be a light, pre-service nosh at 5:45, with services to follow at 6:15 p.m. Then, we’ll have a “Totally Traditional Shabbat Dinner” at 7 p.m. (or thereabouts—you know how we are about schedules at CST). We’ll have roasted chicken, kugels, vegetables, and maybe a surprise or two thrown in for good measure to bring back some memories. As always, there will be a vegetarian option.
The charge for adults will be $10, for children ages 5-12 the charge will be $6.00, and children younger than five get to eat their fill for free.
Just remember that reservations have to be turned in to the CST office along with payment by Thursday, March 1, so that the Dinner Committee has time to do the necessary shopping and preparations for the dinner itself.
